What Nobody Wants to Hear From Me

I’m still surprised by the questions people don’t ask me.

What surprises me even more is how different the questions from clients and employers are.

It doesn’t matter. Whether contract or employment:
You need results. I deliver them.

Customers ask the price first. Employer almost always last. (But only if there is still budget left.)

    And then the classics:

    “What did you do before?”
    Constantly asked.

“What have you achieved for your customers?”
    Rarely.

“When will you (or your team) be ready?”
Always. (Although the requirements are almost always unclear and concepts are only half thought through.)

“Have we considered the interests of all stakeholders?”
Almost never. (You know your people.)

“Should the project even be started?”
Never. (But would sometimes be the best start.)

Some of these questions are awkward.

But helpful not only to start projects, but also to land them.

If you don’t ask me, I’ll ask you.

Let’s start with the two most important ones:

    • What results do you need?
    • What results have I already delivered – and can I deliver?

I will show you my results for reference.

Sadly, some of them are history. Others are still bearing fruit.

But they have all served my clients and employers well during that time. And I was instrumental in shaping them.

    #goodquestions
Good questions inspire me, and I love asking questions. I am not afraid to ask you awkward questions.

    #curiosity
Stagnation is regression. I like discovering new things and enjoy learning. Routine is better left in other hands.

    #dependableIT
Information technology determines our everyday lives and has become as indispensable as electricity from the socket. I am interested in the question of how it can be made resilient and dependable despite global networking and increasing consolidation.

What does this have to do with bungling, useless knowledge, boring standards and rickety technology?

You can find out from the details in my profile…

    I have made mistakes.

Most of the time I have learned from this. Sometimes I took a “wrong turn”.

I once rejected good advice that I would give to younger people today.

    Which one was that?

I’ll tell you when we talk in person.

How can my not-so-straightforward path benefit you?
